The main objective of the project is to improve interoperability in the exchange of information in European rail freight services through the digitisation and use of TAF TSI technical standards (Technical Specification of Interoperability applied for Telematics Applications for Freight), according to the Interoperability Directive 797/EC/2016.
I RAIL Project will also allow the digitisation of current manual procedures established by railway undertakings in their Safety Management Systems, with the aim of guaranteeing safety in the rail operations, complying with Safety Directive 798/EC/2016.
The Project involves the main actors of the rail freight sector (railway undertakings, infrastructure managers, port authorities, wagon keepers, intermodal operators and Customs) from Spain, Portugal and Italy, with the support of the European Union Agency for Railways and the Spanish Railway Safety Agency.
I RAIL will promote rail freight transport in Europe through the exchange of information in a digital and harmonised way, improving the efficiency and quality of rail services, reducing operational costs and, in short, contributing to increasing the share of rail freight transport in Europe.
