• Miguel Garín, Director of International Business Development at Fundación Valenciaport, has participated this week in the XLV edition of the REPICA event (Port Meeting of the Central American Isthmus), acting for the first time as an observer of COCATRAM on behalf of his organisation.

Valencia, 29 September 2023. – This week the XLV edition of REPICA (Port Meeting of the Central American Isthmus) was held in Managua (Nicaragua), an event in which the Fundación Valenciaport, on behalf of the Port of Valencia and its port community, participated for the first time as a permanent observer on the board of the Central American Commission for Maritime Transport (COCATRAM).
This is a milestone for the entity as it has become the first non-Latin American institution to obtain the status of permanent observer in COCATRAM.

At the REPICA meeting, the Fundación Valenciaport was represented by its Director of International Business Development, Miguel Garín, who in addition to participating on the COCATRAM board, now as a permanent observer, participated as a speaker with two conferences focused on the zero emissions port and the importance of training in the logistics and port sector.

This edition of REPICA was attended by representatives of the main port institutions, both public and private, of Central America, as well as their maritime administrations and international suppliers, such as the Spanish entities Grupo Boluda, Infoport and Prosertek.

COCATRAM
COCATRAM is a specialised organisation that forms part of the institutional framework of the Central American Integration System (SICA), with a permanent character, its own board of directors and headquarters in the city of Managua.

COCATRAM deals with matters related to maritime and port development in Central America. Its main function is to advise the Council of Ministers Responsible for Transport in Central America (COMITRAN) and the member governments in the adoption of policies and decisions, with a view to achieving a harmonious development of the sector that meets the needs of foreign trade of the countries in terms of quality, economy and efficiency of maritime and port transport services and that protects and represents the interests of the region before extra-regional interests and organisations. In turn, COCATRAM responds to the alignments and policies dictated by COMITRAN.

COCATRAM Members are: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.
