Valencia, January 8th, 2024 – The final event of the European project BOOSTLOG, an initiative in which Fundación Valenciaport has actively participated and whose main objectives were, on the one hand, to improve the current R & D ecosystem of freight transport and logistics at regional, national and European level and, on the other hand, to accelerate the adoption of technological and organizational innovations to achieve a more efficient, integrated, harmonized and sustainable freight transport and logistics system, was held on December 20th.
During this meeting, held in Brussels in the framework of the 10th anniversary of the ALICE technology platform, coordinator of the project, the main results of the project were presented, including the preparation of 8 Cloud Reports or comprehensive reports in 8 different areas of freight transport and logistics: (logistics coordination and collaboration; urban logistics; logistics nodes; freight and logistics data exchange; logistics networks; physical Internet; efficient and zero-emission freight transport; digital technologies and applications for logistics), in order to assess the existing gaps and the impact generated by R&D projects funded by the EU from the Fifth Framework Programme to the H2020 programme in this area.
Other outstanding results of this initiative have been the prioritisation of innovation topics of relevance for transport and logistics, as well as the development of recommendations for future R&D programmes in this area; or the identification of barriers that prevent the implementation of the results of R&D projects and the proposal of frameworks and valorisation strategies.
In addition, in order to showcase one of the most relevant results of the project, the final conference offered a unique exhibition space in which to visit the posters of all the BOOSTLOG Cloud Reports, a session in which Alicia Enriquez, project technician at the Fundación Valenciaport, presented the Cloud Report on “Logistics Nodes”.
The event ended with the ALICE Innovation Awards ceremony, rewarding the organisations identified in each of the Cloud Reports that translated the results of the R&D projects into new businesses, products or policy measures, and that therefore managed to successfully materialise the results of the innovation projects in the form of tangible results and value for the EU’s objectives.
Thanks to this initiative, it has been possible to promote and boost the impact of the results of European R&D projects on the end users of the freight transport and logistics system, establishing collaborative frameworks for the exchange of best practices, and the existing gaps in research and innovation and the resulting recommendations to funding bodies have been defined, moving towards a more efficient use of R&D investments in the EU.
The project consortium is formed by ALICE (coordinator), Fundación Valenciaport; Zaragoza Logistics Center (ZLC); Fraunhofer, Institute for Material Flow and Logistics; Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS); Delft University of Technology; TKI Dinalog, Dutch Institute for Advanced Logistics; HACO; FIT Consulting; Smart Freight Centre; VIL; CLOSER and ERTICO.
