The objective of the MISSION project is to develop new digital solutions aimed at optimising the maritime voyage and the port call as a key link in maritime port chains. These solutions will make it possible to share relevant information and synchronise the arrival and departure times of ships, improve the planning and execution of operations (ship services, loading/unloading operations, etc.) and reduce fuel consumption during the approach, stay and departure of ships from the port.
MISSION will contribute to increase the transparency of the operational processes associated with port calls, increasing situational awareness among the agents involved, such as shipping lines, terminal operators, port authorities and service providers, among others, improving the management of arrivals and departures from ports, reducing avoidable anchorage times and increasing the level of service to ships.
The digital automation of these processes, which are currently carried out using non-standardised formats, will also serve to improve the interoperability of the platforms that manage information associated with port calls (Port Community Systems, TOS, port and maritime traffic monitoring software, etc.), thus enabling better and more agile decision-making based on the real evolution of maritime calls.
Finally, the initiative will advance in the understanding and development of models that will improve the reliability of predictions in arrivals, port operations and ship departures, using emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Predictive Analytics, among others.
Fundación Valenciaport will lead work package 5, called MISSION Tool Assessment and Stakeholders Change Management, which aims to develop a standard methodology to measure the costs and benefits of the implementation of the project solutions from a financial and socio-economic point of view, analyse the incentive systems of shared costs and benefits derived from the implementation of these solutions and assess compliance with regulations relating to the application of the JIT concept in port maritime supply chains, among other actions.
Fundación Valenciaport participates in MISSION together with relevant companies of the Valenciaport cluster. Specifically, COSCO Shipping Lines and the Ership group are also partners in the project, which will involve the solid bulk terminal of the Port of Valencia, TEMAGRA. In addition, the Polytechnic University of Valencia and the international association Terminal Industry Committee, whose General Secretariat is held by Fundación Valenciaport, are also participating in the project.
