The next topic proposed in the Port Logistics Webinars of the Fundación Valenciaport is cyber-risks in ports and how to minimize them, a question that will be analyzed, next April 22nd, by Rafael Company, EU Innovation Manager of the Fundación Valenciaport and Miguel Ángel Juan, Managing Partner of S2 Group, a company specialized in cyber-security and operation of mission-critical systems.
Today it is unthinkable that an organization should remain indifferent to innovation and digital transformation, two parameters that are greatly modifying business processes. This is why there must be a total alignment between the Information Systems area and the corporate strategy, so as to ensure that its development and capacity guarantee and support the organization’s objectives. But this dependence on corporate information systems also implies the appearance of new risks: “cyber-risks”, which at the same time make it necessary for organizations to invest in “cyber-security”.
In this context, the webinar will be structured in two parts, a first part on cyber-security in ports, in which the trajectory of the Fundación Valenciaport and S2 Group through successful projects, financed by the European Union, such as Sauron, Cybersane or Cybermar, will be briefly analyzed. The second part will focus on issues of great interest in relation to cybersecurity, derived from the implementation of teleworking during these weeks of confinement. In this sense, teleworking is testing the reliability of virtual private networks (VPN) and, above all, of software licenses for teleworking, since when we connect to different networks from outside the office, the cyber-risks or security gaps in the information we access increase exponentially. It is more than likely that, in most cases, the standards required by the organization’s security policies are not met, and access to networks that are not completely secure undoubtedly increases the risks.
This webinar proposes, with an informative approach, some guidelines or recommendations for all those who handle sensitive company information, such as customer files, operations data, financial data, etc. The objective is to inform those who work from home and who are not experts in cyber security, about the possible risks they face and to provide them with some keys to try to minimize them.
It should be remembered that this activity is part of the cycle of free webinars on the main trends in the port logistics cluster that the Valenciaport Foundation has launched with the aim of offering the sector an enjoyable option for training and updating during the period of confinement resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. These webinars are held through the Fundación Valenciaport’s Virtual Classroom platform, on a weekly basis and last 30 minutes plus 15 additional minutes of questions. It is expected that, during the coming weeks, they will continue to analyze very current issues such as the use of hydrogen in the maritime-port sector or the possibilities of the circular economy in ports, among others.
