Valencia, November 28th, 2024.- The kick-off meeting of the MEDIATE security project, ‘Multi facEteD ImplementAtion of a mixed sofTwarE/hardware-based zero-trust framework for the computing continuum‘, was held this week in Chania, Crete.

The initiative, led by the Technical University of Crete and in which Fundación Valenciaport participates, has a budget of more than 5 million euros, co-financed by the Horizon Europe program of the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA).

The project aims to develop resilient technology that addresses security and privacy challenges in the computing continuum, an approach that seamlessly connects devices, edge computing and cloud computing, ensuring the secure flow of information on freight traffic.

To achieve this, MEDIATE will propose an advanced architecture based on the concept of zero trust and adopt a federated learning approach to implement security controls at all levels of the continuum: IoT, edge and cloud. These controls will be supported by dynamic security models, capable of being updated, redeployed and reconfigured throughout the system.

The project framework features will support key deliverables on topics such as cybersecurity resilience, through reconfiguration; vulnerability mitigation, through cyber threat analysis; secure IoT-level integration, through software- and hardware-based security sensors; and trust and security for massive ecosystems, through the use of federated or collaborative learning-based orchestration.

In addition, it will have AI-based tools for cyber threat intelligence to assist a decision support system and privacy policies for data and identity protection.

In the case of Fundación Valenciaport, it will contribute its experience and knowledge of logistics-port processes in the transport of goods and the different digital platforms used in the sector.

The MEDIATE consortium

The project consortium is composed of a total of 15 European entities: the Technical University of Crete, Fundación Valenciaport, Telefónica Innovación Digital, Technische Universitaet Braunschweig, ATHENA Research Center, IOTAM Internet of Things Applications and Multi Layer Development (ITML CY), Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Institut Mines-Télécom, Exascale Performance Systems – EXAPSYS IKE, Security Labs Consulting, Milšped, Danaos Shipping Co.
