The 28th edition of the Master’s Degree in Port Management and Intermodal Transport kicks off with a revamped programme

Valencia – 17.10.19. This afternoon saw the inauguration of the XXVIII edition of the Master’s Degree in Port Management and Intermodal Transport, owned by the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV), directed by Fundación Valenciaport and, since the previous edition, its own title of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV).

This inaugural session was attended by José Aguilar, Professor of Port Planning and Operation at the UPV and Academic Director of the degree; Antonio Torregrosa, Director General, and Ana Rumbeu, Director of Training, both from Fundación Valenciaport, who presented the entities that endorse the Master’s Programme, as well as the academic regulations, the detailed content of the programme and the activities planned.

This edition has 24 students of four different nationalities: Spanish, Colombian, Brazilian and Venezuelan. Likewise, their professional backgrounds are varied, including professionals from the national and international logistics-port sector and recent graduates, mainly in different engineering fields, as well as in Business Administration and Management. The average age of the student body is 29 years old and, for the first time, women outnumber men (52%), a remarkable fact in a historically male sector.

Since the entry of the Universitat Politècnica de València as guarantor of the Master, work has been done to restructure the contents and, as a result, a renewed programme has arisen that is organised around 8 subjects, responding to the needs of the logistics-port sector: Team Management and Leadership; Foreign Trade and Internationalisation; Maritime Traffic and Maritime Law; Transport (Land, Rail, Air and Logistics and Competitiveness); Port Planning; Port Management; Docks and Terminals and, finally, the TFM (Master’s Thesis).

A total of 600 hours corresponding to 60 ECTS credits, where the academic contents, led by a faculty of more than 70 professors from the national and international port logistics sector, are completed with debates, workshops and conferences on the latest trends in innovation and digitisation of the sector and more than 25 visits to port facilities, including the ports of Valencia, Alicante, Castellón and Sagunto.

A weekend of outdoor training linked to strategy and leadership, teamwork performance sessions, an international study trip to London, and the employment exchange and internships in companies in the sector, are the hallmark of a Master’s degree that also offers the best opportunity for professionals in the sector and access to the labour market for recent graduates. A programme with an employability rate of over 95%.

This year, as a novelty, prizes will be awarded to the best Final Master’s Theses, after being presented to the UPV tribunals, and they will be eligible for the prize of being selected to be published and disseminated by Diario del Puerto, which will be an unprecedented support for the visibility of the best work carried out.

The Master in Port Management and Intermodal Transport, created in 1992 by the PAV, is a pioneering training programme in its class and within the Spanish port logistics sector, which over the years has established itself as the training programme in Spanish, specialising in ports and transport, with the greatest international prestige, finding a wide echo among professionals and postgraduates in Spain, Europe and Latin America.

In addition to the 27 editions held in Valencia (Spain), the Master has been taught in its international edition in the countries of Panama and Colombia and with a blended model (online-presential) in Brazil and Argentina.
