Fundación Valenciaport gives a course on Digital Transformation to executives from five Arab countries

Valencia – 06.04.21. Last Saturday saw the start of the course “Digital transformation and development of Smart ports”, jointly organised by Fundación Valenciaport and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), which will train 39 managers from Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Egypt.

This is the eighth time that the two organisations have collaborated on training. This edition, which is delivered in virtual format, actually consists of two intensive training sessions. The first, from 3 to 5 April, has been given by experts from the Port Training Institute, a subsidiary entity of the Arab Academy, and the second, which is being held this week, from 6 to 8 April, is being given by Juan Manuel Díez Orejas, Head of Strategic Planning and Innovation of the Port Authority of Valencia; Miguel Llop, Director of Digital Transformation of Fundación Valenciaport and Joan Meseguer, Project Technician of Fundación Valenciaport specialised in Data Science, Big Data and Internet of Things.

During this week, participants will be trained and will share the good practices acquired by the Port of Valencia. The course includes different modules: Smart logistics and supply chain management; Big Data analysis in the maritime industry; Introduction to smart port technologies; Digitalisation of port and logistics processes; Digital business models for ports; New digital skills for port managers; Digital platforms in the maritime port sector; etc.

The closing ceremony and virtual presentation of diplomas is scheduled for the afternoon of the 8th with the participation of Ana Rumbeu, Director of Training of Fundación Valenciaport and Akram Soliman, Dean and Alaa Morsy, Vice-Dean of AASTMT.

Both this course and the previous ones, on port management, strategy, marketing and innovation in ports, dangerous goods and crisis management in ports, are the result of the close collaboration that the aforementioned entities have been maintaining and which began in April 2015 with the signing of a collaboration agreement in Alexandria (Egypt).
