Valencia, 22 March 2022. – As part of the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the creation of the National Port Commission of Guatemala, the “II Seminar of Government Authorities” took place last week, an event chaired by Alejandro Giammattei, President of the Republic of Guatemala and in which Fundación Valenciaport had the privilege of giving the opening speech by its Director of International Business Development, Miguel Garín, who spoke about the challenges posed by new technologies in the international trade environment.
The event, held in Guatemala City, was also attended by the Minister of Public Finance, Álvaro González Ricci; the president of the National Port Commission, Omar Barrios; as well as the general managers of Puerto Quetzal, Puerto Santo Tomás de Castilla and other personalities from government institutions and the highest representatives of the private sector.
In the various meetings held during the event, all the authorities involved in the maritime and port sector in Guatemala recognised the urgent need for the country to advance in the digital transformation of the national ports in order to increase their competitiveness in foreign trade. Thanks to its international experience in the sector, Fundación Valenciaport was considered to advise on the process of digital port modernisation in Guatemala.
This collaboration has its origin in the signing of a memorandum of understanding held at the Latin American Ports Congress of AAPA Latino, between Fundación Valenciaport and the National Port Commission, with the leadership of Omar Barrios and his management team.
