Valencia – 19.02.20. Two of the European projects coordinated by the Fundación Valenciaport, and in which the Port Authority of Valencia participates, have been selected as finalists for the IAPH 2020 World Ports Sustainability Awards to compete for the award in the categories of “Climate and Energy” and “Resilient Infrastructure”.
The LOOP-Ports project, which competes in the “Climate and Energy” category, is an initiative funded by EIT Climate-KIC whose aim is to facilitate the transition to a more circular economy in the port sector by creating a Network of Ports in this area that will provide an ecosystem of innovation around port activity and stimulate the dissemination of circular economy initiatives.
On the other hand, the GREEN C PORTS project, which competes in the category of “Resilient infrastructure”, is co-financed by the European Commission’s CEF Programme and its main objective is to reduce the impact of port operations in cities and to control emissions in the main European ports. This initiative covers six case studies consisting of prototypes and pilot tests. They will be carried out in different European ports, including the Port of Valencia, and will serve as a basis for testing innovative technologies such as IoT, Big Data or predictive analysis using artificial intelligence models. The voting period to select the winning projects in the different categories ends on February 28th. The 6 winners, from a total of 18 finalists, will be announced during the IAPH 2020 World Ports Conference gala dinner to be held in Antwerp on March 18.
