Valencia – 29.10.2020. Fundación Valenciaport in the framework of the H2020 COREALIS project has organised the Valenciaport Hackathon, an international event which will be held from 20th to 27th November, in online mode, under the claim “Innovating and transforming to achieve the smart, green and resilient port of the future” and which will seek to obtain innovative and creative solutions which improve the performance and sustainability of the Port of Valencia.

The Valenciaport Hackathon is supported and sponsored by the Port Authority of Valencia, Cosco Shipping Lines, the Romeu Group and the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation who have also proposed the 4 challenges which make up this hackathon and which are related to the circular economy in ports; the optimisation of road transport operations; the improvement of ocean rates processing and the international trade facilitation for port operations, respectively.

This initiative, which is aimed at companies and corporations as well as students, entrepreneurs and start-ups, offers as its main prize a monetary award of 3,000 euros, granted by the Juan Arizo Serrulla Foundation (FJAS), and two second prizes of 1,000 euros each, provided by the Propeller Valencia association and the technological platform ALICE.

During one week the participants will be able to develop innovative solutions in response to the challenges posed, with the advice and support of expert mentors in ports and foreign trade from the sponsoring entities and Fundación Valenciaport. They will also be assisted by the organisation in forming teams, for those who register individually.

The eight most promising solutions will go on to the grand final, where a jury made up of the organisers and sponsors of the Valenciaport Hackathon will select the three winning proposals.

The Hackathon organisation also points out that the idea is to give continuity to the most interesting solutions and to support them in the submission of proposals to the “Fondo 4.0”.

The Hackathon of the Port of Valencia will combine the academic knowledge and talent of the participants with the know-how of the port logistics community to promote the sustainable development of intelligent ports. This digital event is an extraordinary opportunity for the Spanish and international innovation ecosystem and will inspire the port logistics industry to turn their ideas into concrete solutions.

The Challenges:

· Circular Economy In Ports (sponsored by the Port Authority of Valencia): Port-City collaboration scheme for circular waste management: Use of urban and port waste to have a km 0 valorisation that returns to the city and the port.

This challenge seeks energy models based on waste, use of technological platforms for sharing information on waste, waste traceability, etc.

· Optimization of Road Transport Operations (sponsored by Cosco Shipping Lines): Synchronization and optimization of road transport operations through greater use of available assets, visibility of operations and a reduction of inefficiencies.

This challenge seeks solutions that provide greater transparency and visibility that result in an optimized planning of port operations.

· Transform Ocean Rates Processing (sponsored by Grupo Romeu): Transported containers require negotiation, in which expenses are invoiced via sophisticated quote management systems, each distinctly unique per shipping company.

This challenge seeks technological solutions that create value by helping process the current massive amount of rate sheets and different formats into one single standard output for logistics operators and quotation management systems.

· International Trade Facilitation for Port Operations (sponsored by the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation): Trade facilitation can create new business opportunities, enable greater economic and social development and can lead to a reduction in poverty.

This challenge seeks trade facilitation solutions that reduce costs and spark productivity, innovation and growth by addressing delays and unnecessary waiting times at borders.
