Valencia – 18.11.2020. Fundación Valenciaport has organised, within the framework of the European project LOOP-Ports, the first course of Initiation in Circular Economy for the Valenciaport Cluster, which will be held, in online mode, on 25th November and 2nd and 3rd December and which also is part of the initiatives of the Ecoport II Project of the Port Authority of Valencia.
This course, free of charge, lasts 9 hours and covers the fundamental aspects of the circular economy specifically applied to ports. These, as logistic nodes and points of passage for different types of waste and industrial flows, are ideal places to evaluate and incorporate strategies of the circular economy. In addition, there will be contents related to this subject that may be applied in the companies that make up the Valencia port cluster.
This training action is divided into three sessions. In the first of these sessions, the context of the circular economy in the sector will be approached, focusing on regulation, business models, etc. and emphasising the definition of the concept and the need to have a circular economy strategy in port companies. During the second session, tools and strategies for application in the sector will be presented. Finally, in the third session the circular port ecosystem will be dealt with and a plan of action for the implementation of the circular economy will be proposed for its application in the companies participating in the course.
The content of the course, which is eminently practical, will be completed with external presentations of successful cases in the field of circular economy. The 30 places available for the training will be allocated in strict order of registration, giving priority to companies within the Valenciaport cluster.
It is worth mentioning that this course will count towards the environmental training and awareness commitment within the Environmental Management and Monitoring Programme for the year 2020 of the Ecoport II project.

LOOP-Ports project
The LOOP-Ports project (Circular Economy Network of Ports), co-financed by EIT Climate-KIC and coordinated by Fundación Valenciaport, has as its main objective to facilitate the transition towards a more circular economy in the port sector, where products, materials and resources are not considered as waste, but can become sustainable and replicable business models in ports of similar characteristics.
