- The pilot will simulate a cyber-attack scenario on the electricity network of the port of Valencia
The first demonstration pilot of the European Cyber-MAR project will be held on the 16th December in the port of Valencia, an event organised by Fundación Valenciaport which will take place in virtual format and in which the main advantages of the Cyber-MAR solution will be tested.
The objective of this event is to raise awareness of the importance of cyber security and to provide tools to protect essential infrastructures such as the electricity network. These tools will allow systems to adapt to new threats and train all employees to be able to react to an attack.
In particular, the pilot will consist of testing and validating an initial version of the Cyber-MAR system in the context of a cyber-attack scenario on the port’s electricity network. During the demonstration, cyber-range technology will be used, which allows the creation of a virtual replica of an infrastructure including all its assets and systems. The scenario is centred on the simulation of a remote access attack on the IT and WO (operation technologies) infrastructure and the energy network of the Port of Valencia. The first objective of this attack is to infect and control various systems and equipment of the OT network and the second objective is to cut the supply by modifying the programming of a PLC (programmable logic controller).
During this demonstration a view of the scenario will be provided through different points of view: from the perspective of an attacker and from the perspective of a defender using the Intruder Detection System (IDS) and SIEM. The project partners will explain how to be prepared for such threats and how to detect them.
Cyber-MAR
Cyber-MAR is a project financed by the Horizon 2020 Programme whose objective is to take advantage of the use of cyber-ranges in the maritime logistics value chain, by developing an innovative simulation environment that is adapted to the peculiarities of the maritime sector, but at the same time is easy to apply in other transport sub-sectors. It will be developed by 13 partners from 8 European countries who have joined together in their vision to promote cyber-readying in the maritime port sector as a high priority.
