New meeting of the port operations working group of the Innovation Committee of the Valenciaport Cluster

Valencia – 16.03.21. A new meeting was held today of the “Planning and Optimisation of Maritime-Port Operations” working group created within the framework of the Valenciaport Cluster Innovation Committee, an initiative coordinated by Fundación Valenciaport.

The general objective of this working group is to identify needs and opportunities for innovation in the maritime-port interface, being a key element the digital transformation of the processes associated with the port scale.

In this sense, the members of the working group intend to establish parallel lines of work that will allow progress in this transformation, facilitating the exchange of information in real time between the port agents involved (Port Authority, terminal operators, technical-nautical service providers, among others), thereby increasing the transparency and efficiency of the process.

The benefits derived from this digital evolution are numerous: in addition to achieving greater overall efficiency in the call process and improving the level of service to ships calling at the ports of Valencia and Sagunto, there is a significant potential for savings in greenhouse gas emissions from ships thanks to a shorter time of stay and operation of the same in port.

Today’s meeting was attended by representatives of the 14 entities that make up this group: APV, MSC Agencia Marítima, COSCO Shipping Lines, CSP Iberian Terminal, MSC Container Terminal Valencia, Terminal Investment Limited (TIL), APMT Valencia, Valencia Terminal Europa, Inter Sagunto Terminales, Baleària, Prácticos de Valencia / Port Control, Remolcadores Boluda, Amarradores de Valencia and Infoport.

In addition to the Port Operations working group, the Innovation Committee of the Valenciaport cluster has three other working groups underway: on “Integral traceability of containers and equipment”, “Control of access to the port, terminals and inland warehouses” and “Evolution towards a zero emissions operating model”.

It is worth remembering that the Innovation Committee arose as a result of the development and implementation of the R+D+i Plan for the Port of Valencia Logistics Community, an initiative led by Fundación Valenciaport and supported by the Port Authority of Valencia (APV) and the Valencian Innovation Agency (AVI).
