Valencia, 06 April 2022. – Yesterday, the first follow-up meeting of the Net-Zero MAR Alliance was held in virtual format, in which it was announced that Fundación Valenciaport will assume the functions of technical secretariat.
The Net-Zero MAR Alliance is a collaborative platform whose main objective is to promote the decarbonisation and electrification of the maritime sector in Spain. This Alliance, initially promoted by Iberdrola, seeks to integrate the entire value chain of maritime transport and port infrastructures, and is fundamentally focused on accelerating the reduction of emissions in all activities related to maritime ports and on promoting the use of alternative fuels that are low or free of polluting emissions in maritime transport. With this, it contributes to positioning the Spanish maritime industry as a driving force in the electrification of ports and the decarbonisation of maritime transport, making it a pioneer in Europe.
Among the functions that Fundación Valenciaport will carry out as technical secretariat of this platform are the management of relations with current partners; the promotion of the Alliance among the representative groups of the maritime sector and attracting new potential partners and participation in forums and events of the sector. It will also take on the tasks of technical coordination, organising the working groups, administrative management and external communication.
During yesterday’s meeting, the structure of the management bodies and their corresponding responsibilities were also defined; a detailed calendar of the work plan for the current year was established and the challenges to be tackled in 2023 were outlined.
