Valencia, 23 September 2022. – The participants in the Assembly of the European project SPROUT, aimed at developing innovative mobility solutions and which is being held in Valencia this week, visited the Metrovalencia facilities this morning.
This initiative is included in the European Horizon 2020 programme and involves the participation of Valencia City Council, Fundación Valenciaport and Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) together with 26 other partners, including European and non-European cities and regions, international organisations, urban transport authorities and road operators, research centres and networks and universities.
The main objective of the project is to place cities at the centre of the urban mobility transition, based on the solutions to these problems developed by six pilot cities: Valencia, Padua, Kalisz, Budapest and Tel Aviv, and one Asian city, Ningbo in China.
Valencia is hosting the 5th Assembly of the SPROUT initiative on 27 and 28 September. The working sessions will be held at the headquarters of the Valenciaport Foundation and will include a visit to the Metrovalencia facilities to check the operation of two projects promoted by SPROUT, such as the parcel collection lockers and the cicloparq bicycle parking facilities.
Visit to Metrovalencia
On this tour of the València metro network and its metropolitan area, the participants checked the operation of one of the parcel collection lockers of the ‘citypaq network’, installed at Colón station by Correos.
The online parcel collection points are installed by Correos in Xàtiva and Colón and avoid last mile transport in cities, thereby reducing traffic and therefore greenhouse gas emissions, noise, congestion and the problems caused by badly parked vehicles delivering parcels.
After Colón, the attendees moved on to the Torrent Avinguda station to see the bicycle parking area, known as ‘cicloparcs’.
Metrovalencia currently has these facilities at Torrent Avinguda, Empalme, Alboraya-Peris Aragó and Quart de Poblet stations on Metrovalencia, and at Benidorm station on TRAM d’Alacant.
Anyone wishing to use this service must be in possession of a card with a valid fare option. The card must be previously registered at www.metrovalencia.es or www.tramalacant.es.
To access the Cicloparc it is necessary to bring the card to the reader located next to the access door. It is now compulsory to wear a mask inside the park and to clean your hands with disinfectant gel.
Bicycles must be placed in the places provided for this purpose, taking up no more space than that reserved for each one. Cicloparc is a complementary service to the trip.
The maximum time a bicycle can remain in Cicloparc is 24 hours. After this time, FGV can remove it.
