Valencia, 09 March 2023. – Last Monday saw the start of the 1st edition of the Master’s Degree in Logistics and Port Management in Panama, an international initiative of the Fundación Valenciaport which, after 7 years in operation, has already attracted more than 150 professional students from Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Brazil and now Panama.
In this initiative, the Fundación Valenciaport is joined by the leadership of the Port Authority of Valencia and the academic endorsement of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, to develop a 600-hour programme, which is taught in a mixed format: 66% of classes in online/virtual mode and 34% in classroom mode, which are taught in the city of Panama, during 6 weeks distributed throughout the calendar. The Master also includes a week of international travel to Valencia, to visit the port, its facilities and attend special conferences.
Thanks to the collaboration agreement signed a year ago with the Panama Maritime Authority (APM), this programme welcomes 22 students, all professionals in the sector, from Guatemala, El Salvador, Colombia, Venezuela and Panama, in the AMP classrooms, a Central American edition that once again consecrates Panama as an international maritime hub.
This master’s degree is aimed at executives and managers in both public administrations linked to the maritime, logistics and port sector and private companies in the port cluster in a broad sense, to whom it offers a specialisation aimed at both acquiring the conceptual knowledge necessary today, and developing best practices that allow them to acquire the necessary skills to develop management functions in the field of logistics and port management.
Challenges are changing, horizons are broadening and innovation is taking place in all aspects and, for this reason, it is essential to achieve professional profiles capable of promoting sustainability and digitalisation and managing the new competencies of talent management.
The union of knowledge, techniques and practices related to logistics and port management are the epicentre of this Master’s Degree, which has seven main subjects: Maritime Traffic; Transport Infrastructures and Means; Port Planning and Management; Business Management applied to the port environment; Production and Logistics; Supply Chain Strategy and Techniques for Logistics and Supply Chain.
Thanks to this comprehensive programme, students will be able to learn about the main aspects related to the transport of goods by sea and land from different points of view: technical, operational, commercial, legal, economic, political and supply chain; as well as delve into the role played by ports, within the logistics cycle of transport, and learn in depth both theoretically and practically about their organisational, planning, economic, commercial and operational peculiarities. They will also be able to design innovative strategies and apply new technologies in logistics to improve competitiveness.
The teaching staff is made up of professors from the Universitat Politècnica de València with proven international teaching experience and professionals from the port logistics sector linked to the Fundación Valenciaport, the Port Authority of Valencia and companies in the port logistics sector in Valencia. There will also be the participation of local teachers in face-to-face modules, who will share sessions with the international teachers.
