Valencia, November 17th, 2023. – The final conference of the EALING project, an initiative that promotes the deployment of ship power supply systems in different ports of the European Union, will take place on November 29th at the Assembly Hall of the Port Authority of Valencia.
The electricity supply to ships, better known as cold ironing, Onshore Power Supply (OPS) or Shore-Side Electricity (SSE) is an effective solution to reduce emissions generated by ships docked in port, meeting the requirements set by the European Commission in the framework of the Fit for 55, and thus contributing to the EU goal of achieving climate neutrality in 2050.
In this context, the EALING (European flagship action for cold ironing in ports) project, co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility Program, has carried out the necessary engineering, environmental, socio-economic and financial studies for the installation of power supply systems in 16 EU ports, while different activities have been carried out in order to contribute to the achievement of a common framework for the deployment of SSE in EU ports, covering both the port side and the ship side.
The final conference, which is also part of the week of celebrations on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of Fundación Valenciaport, was divided into two sessions.
During the morning session, organized in conjunction with the Net-Zero Sea Alliance Annual Congress, there will be panel discussions and presentations by experts from the European Commission and the maritime-port sector focusing on the decarbonization of maritime transport, as well as success stories of installations implemented in ports internationally.
During the afternoon session, the specific results of the EALING project will be presented. In addition to presentations of the results of each activity, there will be two round tables with the participation of eight of the ports participating in the project, who will share with the audience their experiences and lessons learned during the project.
