Alianza Net-Zero MAR will hold its 2nd Annual Congress in A Coruña

  • During the congress, the Study on OPS in Spanish ports will be presented and the power and distribution needs for electricity supply to ships and for the decarbonisation of port terminals will be discussed.
  • The congress will include a visit to the Navantia Fene Shipyard, the port of A Coruña and the ITG technology centre.

Valencia, September 30th, 2024. – On 22, 23 and 24 October, the 2nd edition of the Alianza Net-Zero MAR Congress will be held at the headquarters of the ITG technology centre in A Coruña, an event organised by Fundación Valenciaport, in its role as technical secretariat of this initiative, which will bring together companies and administrations committed to the decarbonisation of the port and maritime transport sector in Spain.

For two and a half days, there will be a debate on the different technological solutions available in the short, medium and long term to reduce emissions in port activity and maritime transport services. In addition, the different topics addressed during the last year in the different working groups will be discussed in depth: Decarbonisation of ships in navigation, Electricity supply to ships from port – a session in which the Study on OPS in Spanish ports will be presented and the power and distribution needs of this supply will be debated -, Renewable energies, Roadmap for the decarbonisation of the sector and Decarbonisation of port terminals. Finally, there will be a detailed approach to the impact of European and global regulations on the sector, Spain’s maritime strategy, as well as the blue economy strategy and the Maritime Space Management Plan.

The aim of the NET-ZERO MAR Congress is to create a meeting place and facilitate dialogue among organisations with a clear commitment to the decarbonisation of the port and maritime transport sector and to publicise the technological solutions that will contribute to the decarbonisation of the sector.

The event will include a programme of conferences and discussion panels with the participation of high-level representatives from companies and administrations; an exhibition area where the technological solutions for decarbonisation, designed by leading companies in this field, will be on display; and a series of visits focused on the sector, including a visit to the Port of A Coruña, the facilities of Navantia FENE and Galaxy-Lab, the centre for advanced experimentation in Artificial Intelligence of the ITG technology centre.

At present, the Net-Zero Mar Alliance has more than 50 members of relevance in the maritime port sector, including port authorities, shipping companies, terminals, industry representatives and research entities.
