The 33rd edition of the Fundación Valenciaport’s Master’s Degree in Port Management and Intermodal Transport gets started

  • The MGPT is a program owned by the Port Authority of Valencia (APV), led by Fundación Valenciaport and a degree of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV).
  • The MGPT program includes topics of great relevance for the sector such as digitalization and energy transition, and will also be supported by Opentop, Valenciaport’s innovation hub, to enhance the field of entrepreneurship and open innovation.

Valencia, 18th October 2024. – Yesterday afternoon took place the inauguration of the XXXIII edition of the Master in Port Management and Intermodal Transport (MGPT), a program owned by the Port Authority of Valencia (APV), directed by Fundación Valenciaport and own title of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV).

Enrique Belda, Director of the APV; José Aguilar Herrando, Professor at the UPV and Academic Director of the Master; Antonio Torregrosa, General Manager, and Mª Carmen Estela, Training Technician, both from Fundación Valenciaport, were in charge of presenting, during the inaugural session, the entities that support the Master Program and the academic regulations.

This edition has 18 students (17 Master students and 1 student who will take the Diploma of Specialization in Intermodal Transport), of five different nationalities: Spanish, Colombian, Peruvian, Venezuelan and Mexican. Likewise, their professional and/or academic background is varied, including professionals from the national and international logistics-port sector, as well as recent graduates, mainly in Business Administration and Management, although graduates in Law, International Business and different engineering degrees also stand out. The average age of the student body is 32 years old and, in this edition, unlike in recent years, there is a higher percentage of women (56%) compared to 44% of men.
Program for the XXXIII edition of MGPT

The academic program of this XXXIII edition will focus on the major challenges facing the sector today such as digital transformation and energy transition, incorporating, in addition, new activities in the international arena and enhancing the field of entrepreneurship and open innovation, relying on Opentop, the innovation hub of Valenciaport.

It is worth recalling the innovative methodologies used in this master program with the aim of strengthening experiential learning in the classroom through the resolution of unique and original business cases on: contracting and dispute resolution, internationalization of companies, import and export of goods, as well as workshops on customs and maritime documentation, and the one dedicated to ValenciaportPCS, the technology platform created by the Port Authority of Valencia that offers services aimed at streamlining the operational processes of companies in the port community. As a novelty for this edition, the methodology of the program will be innovated by integrating throughout the course the case studies, courts and presentations of the students through a common thread that provides a global and integrated view of everything learned.

The program is organized around 8 subjects, responding to the needs of the port-logistics sector: Team Management and Leadership; Foreign Trade and Internationalization; Maritime Traffic and Maritime Law; Transport (Land, Rail, Air and Logistics and Competitiveness); Port Planning; Port Management; Docks and Terminals and, finally, the TFM (Master’s Thesis). A total of 600 hours corresponding to 60 ECTS credits, where the academic contents, taught by a faculty of more than 70 professors from the national and international port logistics sector, are complemented by debates, workshops and conferences on the latest trends in innovation and digitalization of the sector and more than 25 visits to port facilities, including the ports of Valencia, Alicante, Castellón and Sagunto.

The job opportunities and internships in companies of the sector continue to be the hallmark of this Master’s program, which also offers the best opportunity for professionals in the sector and access to the labor market for recent graduates. A program with an employability rate close to 100%.
In addition to the 32 editions held in Valencia (Spain), the Master’s Degree has been taught in its international edition in the countries of Panama and Colombia and with a blended model (online-presential) in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and also Panama.
