- The initiative has a budget of nearly 28 million euros, co-financed by the Horizon Europe program
Valencia, January 30th, 2025. – This week was held in Athens (Greece) the kick-off meeting of the COP-Pilot project ‘Collaborative Open Platform for Piloting services across energing smart IoT and Edge computing environments‘, whose ultimate goal is to boost the digital transformation of various industrial sectors through the integration of edge computing, advanced 5G connectivity and decentralized data processing.
COP-Pilot, an initiative led by the company Netcompany-Intrasoft, S.A., and in which Fundación Valenciaport participates, has a budget of nearly 28 million euros, co-financed by the EU’s Horizon Europe program.
This project focuses on developing an open collaborative platform to manage end-to-end services in various industrial fields. This platform is designed to effectively manage different sectors, ensuring security, automation and intelligence, and integrating seamlessly with the underlying technologies.
The implementation will be carried out in four major pilot clusters, addressing different areas: energy, smart cities, agriculture and industrial manufacturing.
The ‘smart cities’ pilot, led by the Polytechnic University of Valencia, and in which Fundación Valenciaport participates, will focus on the city of Valencia and its surroundings. This pilot will aim to evaluate smarter and more sustainable mobility and data solutions, as well as integrate and validate smart IoT platforms and devices in large-scale tests in several scenarios: the city of Valencia, the Port of Valencia, the Almussafes industrial estate and the UPV campus.
In the case of the Port of Valencia, use cases that may be of interest to any port cluster entity will be studied, always within the framework of the use of a smart IoT platform for advanced management of maritime and land traffic, improving safety and efficiency through accurate maritime tracking technologies, real-time risk assessment and improved monitoring of truck movement.
Specifically, the role of Fundación Valenciaport, will consist in the elaboration of the requirements that end users need, in addition to the drafting of the use cases to be carried out in the port. On the other hand, it is worth mentioning that it will work with the new advanced 5G laboratory that Fundación Valenciaport has recently put into operation, which enables the possibility of working with use cases demanding large volumes of data and also in interconnecting millions of IoT devices at the same time.
According to Pablo Palomo, head of the COP-Pilot project at Fundación Valenciaport, “the relevance of this initiative lies in the fact that it seeks to develop and promote a global platform that makes real use of advanced types of collaborative services in all segments, inspiring new growth capabilities for the entire value chain. It aims to provide real added value (in terms of automation and intelligence), to take full advantage of processing capabilities, low latency services and increased bandwidth.”
