Valencia, January 23rd, 2025. – Last Tuesday was held the first meeting of the 2025 Valenciaport Cluster Innovation Committee. The meeting, led by Fundación Valenciaport, was attended and participated by representatives of the Port Authority of Valencia, Cosco Shipping, MSC, MSCTV, Baleària, APM Terminals, VTE and Infoport, among others.
During the inauguration, Antonio Torregrosa, general director of Fundación Valenciaport, welcomed the attendees and presented the agenda of the meeting.
Next, Salvador Furió, deputy director of Fundación Valenciaport, gave a brief overview of the current status and upcoming activities of its three working groups. The Security group plans to meet again in March for a session in which a demonstration will be given of the technologies for detecting illicit substances in containers that are being developed within the framework of the European METEOR project. The Maritime Operations group will also organize in the coming months a session to present the results of the pilots of the berthing aid system developed in the 5GRadar project. Finally, through the Artificial Intelligence and Value Added Services group, the opportunity to fund the pilot of different use cases to improve the efficiency of maritime and land transport by applying 5G technology and/or AI models will be channeled.
This opportunity is opened through the open calls of the COP-Pilot project, an initiative presented by Joan Meseguer, Senior Manager of innovation projects at Fundación Valenciaport, and whose objective is to boost the digital transformation of various industrial sectors through the integration of edge computing, advanced 5G connectivity and decentralized data processing. Thanks to this project, an intelligent IoT platform will be developed for the advanced management of maritime and land traffic, improving safety and efficiency through precise maritime tracking technologies, real-time risk assessment and improved monitoring of truck movement.
Following this, Jorge Marcos, Opentop Lead Project Manager, presented the new Opentop model – Valenciaport’s innovation hub – which in this new stage will offer a Match Making service, which will put the best startups and scaleups in contact with companies in the port cluster to maximize the creation of business opportunities and innovation. In addition, the success of initiatives such as the Valenciaport Hackathon, the Port Entrepreneurship International Congress (PEIC), and participation in the Port Innovators Network (PIN) will be continued. The Opentop Labs and the generation of proposals for the Ports 4.0 program that have the support of a company or entity of the Valenciaport cluster will also be promoted.
The reunion continued with the intervention of Juan Manuel Díez, head of Innovation of the APV, who explained the details of the drone survey that the APV will soon send to the cluster companies.
The meetings of the Committee usually include the participation of a reference speakers who share their experience on innovation. On this occasion, it was attended by Mª Carmen López, head of Innovation Ecosystem and Scouting at Naturgy, who presented the open innovation model of the energy company.
