- A pioneering project to promote accessible tourism and the enhancement of Spanish fishing heritage
Vigo, March 24th, 2025. – “Ruta Nacional Accesible e Inclusiva de Experiencias de Turismo Industrial Marítimo Pesquero” under the brand “A Un País de Mar”, is an innovative initiative that seeks to integrate the cultural and historical richness of the fishing sector in the national tourism offer. This exciting project, co-financed by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism through the Plan for Recovery, Transformation and Resilience – Funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, will be launched in September 2025 with activities in nine autonomous communities.
Objectives of A Country of the Sea
The national route seeks to bring travelers closer to the richness of Spain’s fishing heritage through accessible and inclusive experiences. From visits to ports and boats to tours of processing factories and interpretation centers, tourists will be able to experience an authentic immersion in the sector. This project combines outreach, sustainability and accessibility, allowing all people, regardless of their abilities, to enjoy the culture of the sea.
Project Partners
The project is led by the Fundación para la Pesca y el Marisqueo (FUNDAMAR), in collaboration with the Federación Nacional de Cofradías de Pescadores (FNCP), Viajes InterRías, Fundación Valenciaport, Clúster Marítimo de Canarias and Asociación AMICOS, who will contribute their knowledge and experience in the creation of innovative and sustainable tourism experiences.
Innovation and Accessibility
The Accessible and Inclusive National Route of Industrial Maritime Fishing Tourism Experiences is distinguished not only by its cultural identity as a fishing power, but also by its commitment to accessibility and inclusion. Wherever possible, technological tools such as adapted mobile applications, guided tours with accessible resources and multimedia content in different formats will be implemented to ensure that everyone can enjoy this experience.
Impact on Tourism and the Local Economy
This project will contribute to the diversification of tourism in Spain, generating new employment opportunities and strengthening the identity of coastal communities. It will also facilitate interaction between tourists and seafaring professionals, allowing them to discover first-hand the fishing tradition and its role in the country’s economy and culture.
Launch and Next Steps
The promotion is scheduled to kick off in September 2025, with a series of presentation events in different autonomous communities.
