Valencia, 10 April 2025 – Registration is now open for the 5th edition of the Valenciaport Hackathon focusing on challenges in cybersecurity, energy efficiency and waste traceability.

Opentop, Valenciaport’s innovation hub, has officially presented the 5th Valenciaport Hackathon, which it is organising in collaboration with the Artificial Intelligence & Robotics Association (IDF). Registration is now open for this event, which will be held in person on 9, 10 and 11 May in the emblematic Clock Building of the Port of Valencia.

The presentation day opened with a welcome message from Antonio Torregrosa, director general of Fundación Valenciaport, followed by an interview with the winners of the previous edition. In it, they shared their positive experience in the hackathon and how their participation has been transformed into an entrepreneurial project. Next, the details of this fifth edition were presented, which included a practical dynamic where the attendees -representatives of the collaborating entities- were able to experience some of the activities that will be developed during the hackathon. The event was closed by Juan Manuel Díez, head of Innovation at the Port Authority of Valencia.

The Valenciaport Hackathon is a unique opportunity for young talent to get closer to the real needs of the port community, proposing innovative and creative solutions that contribute to improving efficiency, security and sustainability. It also offers participants practical learning, visibility and employability in a sector in constant growth, such as the port sector.

The Valenciaport Hackathon has established itself as the Hackathon of international reference in the maritime-logistics sector, and is already part of the open innovation calendar of the port ecosystem.

In this edition, it has the knowledge of the sector and the technology of APM Terminals, Infoport and CIBERTRS, as collaborating companies, as well as the experience in organising hackathons and attracting talent of Innova&Acción, and with the co-financing of the National Institute of Cybersecurity (INCIBE). It also has the support and dissemination of Startup Valencia, Valencia Innovation Capital and Invest in Valencia.

The event will include three main challenges around energy efficiency, waste traceability, and cybersecurity, proposed by Logistop, the Port Authority of Valencia, and ATEIA Valencia respectively.

The Hackathon is aimed at professionals, entrepreneurs and students from various disciplines: new technologies, engineering, business development, etc. Several prizes will be awarded:

  • First prize: €3,000 offered by the Juan Arizo Serrulla Foundation (FJAS)
  • Second prize: €2,000 offered by The Whiteam
  • Third prize: €1,000 offered by Propeller Valencia

For three days, participants will work in multidisciplinary teams to develop their solutions with the support of expert mentors in ports, innovation and new technologies. In addition, they will receive specialised training through masterclasses and practical activities focused on agile methodologies, idea validation, prototyping, business model and preparation of pitches to present their solutions. The grand finale will feature the exhibition of the projects developed before a jury made up of the organisers and collaborators of the hackathon, who will select the winning proposals.

The 5th Valenciaport Hackathon is an initiative that merges the technical and academic knowledge of emerging talent with the know-how of the logistics-port ecosystem, promoting sustainable solutions for the smart ports of the future.

The deadline to apply for participation is now open and will close on 1 May 2025.
