Within the blue economy, there is a significant shortage of qualified personnel able to take full advantage of the latest technologies and techniques of the European Green Pact. It is therefore crucial to establish more training and certification programmes to boost the transition towards greener ports.
In this context, the BLUE PORTS project will support the development of blue skills of port staff as a catalyst, bridging the gap between existing services and the targets set out in the European Green Pact.
The initiative aims to provide a competitive advantage to those involved in port management by offering practical guidance and fundamental tools in areas such as emission reduction, integrated waste management, renewable energy implementation and BLUE PORTS – BLUE CAREERS IN NET ZERO ENERGY PORTS.
To this end, a training programme will be developed and implemented with innovative educational material and a digital examination and certification system, and a BLUE PORTS network will be formed with governmental organisations, civil society, educational, environmental and port associations.
Role of Fundación Valenciaport:
Fundación Valenciaport leads work package 2, which aims to design the BLUE PORTS competency framework and common training methodology, providing insight into the needs and perspectives of the maritime market.
It also participates in the tasks of communication and dissemination of results, leading the creation of networks in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea and supporting training tasks, both in the development of training material and its implementation.
