The inspiration behind CLIMEPORT was to involve Mediterranean ports in the fight against climate change, developing actions and sharing experiences and best practices to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Consequently, CLIMEPORT determined various actions and initiatives to assess influence diagnostics of port activities on climate change as well as to define action plans to reduce the environmental impact of port operations.
It is worth pointing out that CLIMEPORT created a set of actions aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emission (GGE) levels, the identification of best practices and the design of action plans founded on innovation, know-how and the transfer of knowledge acquired during the project.
As a result, a methodology was established to assess port activities in terms of GGE as well as calculating the Carbon Footprint and more than thirty different best practices were identified, validated in the six participating ports, aimed at reducing emission levels from port activities. All of which is contained in the “CLIMEPORT Methodology Handbook”.
