In 2018, the Fundación Valenciaport undertook the development and implementation of the Innovation Plan for the Logistics Community of the Port of Valencia, an initiative supported by the Port Authority of Valencia (APV) and the Valencian Agency for Innovation (AVI), which has become the strategic tool for promoting the innovation priorities of the companies that make up the port community of Valenciaport.
In this sense, the Innovation Plan carries out a benchmarking of the most innovative ports in the world, identifying and analysing the most relevant trends that will condition the competitiveness of the logistics sector, proposing lines of action in the field of R+D+I aimed at the challenges posed in the short, medium and long term. For the development of the Plan, work was carried out with the different groups that make up the cluster, as well as with relevant agents in the Valencian science and technology system, subsequently creating the Innovation Committee as the governing body in charge of giving continuity to what has been achieved in 2018 by monitoring the progress of the different lines of innovation.
Among the main innovations detected in this Plan, the following stand out in terms of environmental sustainability: the evolution towards a zero-emissions model thanks to the use of renewable energies and the electrification and use of alternative fuels such as LNG or hydrogen; the monitoring of the carbon footprint, or environmental subsidies, among others. On the other hand, in the field of digitalization and automation, this initiative has enabled the detection of actions to predict and manage land accesses, plan and optimize maritime operations, automate terminals and vehicles, or provide traceability services in blockchain networks. Finally, in the area of new logistics models, the plan opens the door to promoting innovation through start-ups or the development of new logistics models with a circular economy.
