The purpose of PASSport is to design and evaluate a solution that will broaden the knowledge of the operational situation by providing greater security in port areas. The need comes from the “Directive 2005/65/EC on enhancing port security” which calls for the complementing of surveillance systems for the port area, in order to guarantee a high level of safety and security for all European ports. Around 1,000 European ports fall under the scope of the directive.
In this respect, PASSport seeks to respond to the needs expressed by the port authorities, sea masters and border control authorities who are directly involved in defining solutions towards improving port security. Therefore, the proposed solution will be complementary to the platforms already in operation by extending the surveillance perimeter using a fleet of drones with a high degree of innovation and providing operational support for security and operational aspects, with particular attention to
– Pollution monitoring (air and water)
– Support to navigation in port as well as in berthing / unberthing operations
– Surveillance of buildings and critical infrastructure
– Identification of unauthorised small boats approaching port areas
– Monitoring of underwater threats (underwater drones)
The project is expected to activate commercialisation channels based on the novelty represented by the usage of a fleet of aerial and underwater automated drones integrating Galileo services (and other sensors) for a safe and efficient guidance, navigation and control (GNC).
