TRUSTEE – fuTure pRoof efficient and sUSTainable dEployment of zEwt

The TRUSTEE project ‘fuTure pRoof efficient and sUSTainable dEployment of zEwt’ aims to provide Zero Emission Waterborne Transport (ZEWT) decision-makers and indirect stakeholders at political, industrial, technological and operational levels with a comprehensive and reasoned set of knowledge and recommendations. These recommendations are based on a tested approach, based on the clarity and comprehensiveness of the 2030 and 2050 forecast scenarios in which the ZEWT will be deployed.

In addition, a comparative multi-dimensional assessment framework has been developed that incorporates environmental, social, technological, financial and operational aspects. It also includes safety and security aspects for the workforce and citizens.

The objectives of the project include:

  • Define and validate the future European ZEWT ecosystem in 2030 and 2050 time horizons through forecasting scenarios.
  • Detail and validate the most promising ZEWT use cases for the 2030 and 2050 target horizons.
  • Build and validate a cross-sectoral and multi-stakeholder assessment framework for system components and ecosystems in general, with an emphasis on the Zero Emission target in the European shipping sector.
  • Identify systemic and sectoral barriers that challenge the ZEWT objectives and define recommendations for their timely implementation.
  • Create a common understanding among all direct and indirect stakeholders for the timely achievement of the ZEWT objectives.

Moreover, TRUSTEE’s expected project outcomes include the identification and development of:

  • ZEWT 2030 and 2050 forecast scenarios.
  • ZEWT technology readiness review.
  • Benchmarking framework for the evaluation of ZEWT use cases, combining environmental, technical, operational, social and financial indicators.
  • ZEWT barrier analysis.
  • Most promising ZEWT use cases.
  • Recommendations for ZEWT standards, regulations and policy development.
  • ZEWT open access learning package.

Fundación Valenciaport will contribute its knowledge and extensive experience, both in use cases and pilot tests in ports, as well as in similar European projects in which it has participated.
