This technical assistance will help Portos do Paraná to measure the carbon footprint of its activity and to define the actions to be carried out in the coming years to meet its strategic objective of decarbonisation. As a result of this collaboration, the port authority will have a Decarbonisation Plan that will allow the development of the most appropriate strategies to reduce the carbon footprint of the port activity in the coming years.

The work will start with an initial inventory of greenhouse gas emissions to identify the main priorities for action, as well as to have an order of magnitude of the current level of emissions. It will then take into account the most appropriate low-carbon technologies, as well as local operating and environmental conditions to define a realistic and achievable decarbonisation plan within the defined time range.

Paraná Ports is a port complex formed by the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina. The port complex covers a vast area of 4,129,801.3 m2, with 5,347 metres of quays and jetties, as well as 24 berths. The commercial dock at Paranaguá has 16 berths, while 2 berths are dedicated to liquid liquid handling and 1 berth is dedicated to fertilisers at Antonina. The Paraná complex will be one of the first in Brazil to have a decarbonisation programme, with the aim of mitigating greenhouse gas emissions. One of the added benefits of the project is the creation of a collaborative environment between the different actors that will allow the complex to undertake the energy transition process in the most efficient way possible.
